WISDOM AND KNOWLEDGE - Louis Parrish

Wisdom and knowledge are related;

Yet how different they are!

Knowledge prides itself for how much it knows.

Wisdom is humbled at how much it needs to learn!*

For making so many things,

Knowledge is hailed as King!

Wisdom wanders lonely on the street,

Drawing sparse attention!

Knowledge sings its Sirene song,

“Quick! quick!, come see what’s new!”

Wisdom says “Let’s consider value!”

Knowledge deals in present happiness;

To that, Wisdom adds lasting joy!

Knowledge asks the question, “Can we?”

Wisdom asks, “Should we?”

Great things happen when they consult!

Knowledge says it can save the Planet,

Wisdom says, “There’s a chance;

But only if we work together!”

Knowledge built The Bomb!

Wisdom wept.

*William Cowper
